In this 23 nights and 24 days tour, you traverse 165Km of the mighty Hindu Kush and Hindu Raj Ranges in Chitraland Karakoram Ranges in Gilgit Baltistanthat involves 17 days of strenuous hiking and camping in the great alpine outdoors where you also cross paths with the Himalayan Ranges on the way in one of the most classic backpacking trails.
The trail takes you through the meeting points of five of the world’s largest concentration of mountain ranges. Here you also encounter the world’s largest glaciers outside the polar region. On a clear day you can also spot the Pamir Ranges which straddle Tajikistan, Northern Afghanistan and China and therefore aptly dubbed as the roof of the world.
Experience backpacking in pristine wilderness like none other, navigating the rugged spine of Northern Chitrals’ 15,000ftShah Junali(translates into black polo ground) and 15,500 Chillinji Passes, glaciers, streams, rivers and summer pastures. On this trip you get to see Terich Mir, Rakaposhi, Nanga Parbat and countless peaks above 7000m or 21,000 ft.
Enjoy backcountry hikes through the heartlands of two of Pakistan’s leading national parks i.e. BoroghulNational Park and Khunjerab National Parkthat are teeming with wildlife i.e. ibex, brown bear, snow leopards, marmots, marco polo sheep, brown bear, wolves, foxes, wild hare, chakor partridges, snow cock, golden eagle and many a migratory birds. You pass beyond human habitations where yaks and horses remain the main source of transportation to till day. You get to camp alongside Karambar lake one of Pakistan’s highest alpine lakes in the Boroghul National Park located in Chitral which is home to 32 alpine lakes -the largest concentration of alpine lakes in Pakistan.

This route showcases a diverse array of flowers, rivers, glaciers, waterfalls, wildlife, and lush green pastures. The region boasts abundant flora and fauna, including snow leopards, wolves, golden eagle, marmots, black bears, and wild hare, jackal and foxes. The itinerary also includes the hot springs of Garam Chashama enroute which you also get to witness the endangered markhor goats in the Tushi game sanctuary aimed at successfully protecting the endangered markhor in its natural habitat on the banks of the Garam Chashma River which is also home to leopards and wolves which a few lucky ones may get a rare glimpse during the winter season.
The trek also crosses over from the Kalash Summer Pastures of Chimisan in Rumboor Valley over the 15,000 ft Doni Pass and then descends into the Chitral Gol National Park a wildlife sanctuary for the endangered long horned wild markhor goat (meaning snake eater) into the Summer Place of the mehtars (former rulers) of Chitral as this area served as the famous hunting grounds of the mehtars.
The national park is also the habitat of the snow leopard and it also houses wolves, lynx, marmots, rabbit, monal pheasant snow cock, partridges, golden eagle and many other flora and fauna species at one time used to also have black bears and musk deer.
